My Under-appreciated Amygdala

by Don Baham on August 10, 2018

After nearly 90 years

I’m finally appreciating

the singularly aloneness

of my amygdala

whose only function

seems to be protecting me

from non-existence

in the blink of an eye

when he senses that

the fates conclude that

he marshall his

protective forces

to scare you away...

He is just beginning

to appreciate that his

cognitive cerebral cohorts

are standing by

to make me aware that

the threat at the moment

is just that

and he can return to

his quiescent sentinel ...

you can never know

when he just might

save the day …

I do so love

my lonely amygdala …
